MORAÑA, Frank (1953– ). Degrees in organ and composition, Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. Fellow of the American Guild of Organists, The Royal Canadian College of Organists, Trinity College London. Former New York City-based musicographer specializing in keyboard and organ music of J. S. Bach. Engagements included New York premieres of reconstructed improvisations by Notre-Dame organist Pierre Cochereau, Bach’s Six Sonatas for organ performed complete from memory, and world premiere of Milestones, a multi-movement suite for organ and orchestra by Hampson A. Sisler, performed in two installments at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. Collaborations with New York Chamber Symphony Orchestra, Adelphi Chamber Orchestra, 92nd Street Y Chamber Players, Westchester Collegium. Original research published by Riemenschneider Bach Institute in affiliation with the American Bach Society. Original compositions include six symphonic poems, piano, chamber, and organ works. Wide interest in contemporary organ music in over 200 reviews for American Organist magazine. As examiner and national committee member for the professional certification programs of the American Guild of Organists wrote four-part series “Probing the Organ Works of Bach.” Former editor for the quarterly Journal of the Organ Historical Society and for the semiannual newsletter of the American Bach Society.

* These performances include 16 all-Bach programs, and some music by my other favorite composers. I play all from memory, since I have been living with this repertory for over 30 years.
My recorded selections are highlights from over 100 sides of studio recitals hosted by the Renaissance Street Singers of New York (John Hetland, founder-director) in 1987–1992. These recitals encompassed nearly the complete Bach repertory, all performed from memory at the harpsichord. The first group comprises a collection of recordings that was later assembled and annotated as a half-hour "children's program." The second group comprises another collection of recordings that was assembled and annotated as a two-hour "adult program."
